Audi’s pioneering use of belt-driven camshafts in the 1970s marked a significant shift in engine design. The cost-effective solution, while offering both advantages and drawbacks, found its place in the iconic EA827 engine. Beyond the overhead camshaft, an intermediate shaft, positioned along the engine block, was employed to drive essential components like the oil pump and ignition system.
For advanced modifications to the EA827 family, where factory oil pumps are replaced with external units (common in dry sump systems) and ignition systems are either eliminated or driven directly by the camshaft, the intermediate shaft becomes redundant. Removing this component yields substantial weight savings and reduces power losses.
To effectively seal the engine block after shaft removal, our precision-crafted aluminum blanking plate (24rs) is the ideal solution. Available in both black and silver finishes, the plate utilizes the factory N 903 535 01 O-ring to ensure a perfect seal. This upgrade replaces the original seal (026 103 085 F/068 103 085 E) and housing (027 115 033).
